DEAF AWARENESS/EQUALITY

Aims: To raise knowledge and enhance awareness of issues in connection with deafness and hearing loss.

Objectives: To help break down barriers to communication in all its forms and be aware of the communication needs of people with difference hearing losses ranging from profound to mild.

Also to examine ways in which we respond to people with a hearing loss.

During the session participants will have the opportunity of trying out hearing aids and also practice some lipreading exercises.

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE

Aims: To give an understanding of British Sign Language (BSL) as a Language, and it's structure. Also learn the difference between British Sign Language, Sign Supported English (SSE) and Mime.

Objectives: By the end of the course delegates will able to fingerspell and use very basic everyday signs. They will also have an awareness of Deaf Culture, the role of an interpreter and learn good communication tactics.

At the end of the training each participant will receive a training pack covering the session and a Wright Communication Training Services Certificate of Attendance.
